Brenton Center Technology
Lecture Capture Technology
Lecture capture is a solution that captures classroom-based activities in a digital format that is then available for download or consumption over the Internet. The Brenton Center supports several lecture capture systems.
Accordent Capture Station
The Accordent Capture Station is an enterprise-grade solution that enables faculty to create interactive rich media presentations for distance delivery. Captured lectures containing streaming video and audio of the instructor is synchronized with graphics (Power Point, web pages, and Elmo document camera) are formatted for on-demand streaming media from Brenton Center delivery servers. Lecture links are placed within BlackBoard course pages for student viewing. The Brenton Center has the ability to use this system from both classrooms and conference room (008, 009, 013 Curtiss).
Camtasia Relay
Camtasia Relay allows faculty to record, produce, and publish their lectures from any classroom on campus. Client software is installed on faculty computers that allows the capture of their desktop and audio. The captured file is sent to a Brenton Center Relay server for encoding. Faculty are notified by the processing server after encoding is complete. They can then view the finished lecture and release it for posting the lecture link into their BlackBoard course. Faculty will need a high quality microphone to record their lecture notes. This capture technology is free to all College of Agriculture & Life Science faculty and staff.
Panopto
Panopto is a university based capture system that is used mainly for on-campus lecture capture. The university is working toward installing the necessary technology in large and medium size lecture rooms. Panopto allows the recording of lecture video, audio, and desktop screens. The Brenton Center is currently using Panopto for remote capture in lecture rooms outside of Curtiss Hall. Lecture links are placed in BlackBoard. Lectures are saved for the current semester and typically erased after semester end.
Conference Technology
The Brenton Center provides two solutions for conference technology that can be delivered from both classrooms and conference room (008, 009, 013 Curtiss) and a HD portable conferencing cart for use in Curtiss Hall. Possible uses include meetings, graduate student final defenses, and research collaboration.
Video IP
Brenton Center rooms are equipped with Polycom Video IP units. This allows for point-to-point or multi-point video conferencing, meetings, or live online classes. It is a collaborative solution that can optimize productivity while reducing travel costs. Our new HD portable conferencing cart can be used in small conference rooms or office.
Adobe Connect
Adobe Connect is a web conferencing platform used for online meetings, eLearning, and webinars. Users can connect from their personal desktop computers. Users will need a high quality microphone and web camera to enjoy the full benefits. Keyboard chat is available for questions during most webinars.
