Staff Updates

John Rearick joined the Brenton Center Spring semester. His main responsibilities center on the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences Web Site and database management. Lori Youngberg joined the Brenton Center Summer semester. Her main responsibilities center on distance education student services and marketing. Ann Bugler has accepted a position with College of Human Sciences Distance Education starting August 11th. Todd Vens and Rod Fischer will be the new contacts for course development.

New Technology for Distance Education

Wimba voice tools and Wimba Live Classroom are new technology for distance education classes. The Brenton Center is working with the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences Language Studies Resource Center to sponsor the Wimba voice tools and with the Center for Excellence in Learning and Teaching and the College of Human Sciences Distance Education to sponsor Wimba Live Classroom. Wimba is a web-based audio/video collaboration system designed for on-line education and live interactive communications and is fully integrated into WebCT. Pod Cast Promotions

The Brenton Center provides free Pod Cast production to promote College of Agriculture & Life Science departmental research and recruitment activities.

Departments who have an interest in Pod Casts for research or recruitment should contact Rod Fischer at 4-9970 or videoguy@iastate.edu to set a time to discuss your Pod Cast project.

Distance Education Instructors Reception

College of Agriculture and Life Science distance education instructors were recognized at a Distance Education Reception on April 23, 2008. The program consisted of remarks from Dean Wintersteen, Associate Dean Acker, and Director Gaylan Scofield.

Twenty Plus plaques were awarded to four instructors, Ten Plus plaques were awarded to seven instructors, and Five Plus certificates were awarded to twenty-seven instructors. Instructor List
